Thailand - Golden Triangle Thailand - Kanchanburi

After a 3 hour journey back down to Chaing Mai we caught another night train, this time it only cost about 5 pounds each... we were in a carriage with no air conditioning, the windows were open, in the middle of a malaria area quite worrying especially as neither Paul or I had taken any malaria tablets... (hey blame my doctor! she said it would be ok!!)... it was extremely noisy and bumpy, i found the whole experience hilarious for the first half hour, then the ear plugs came out... thank god Paul nicked (err borrowed) them from BAE!! :)

Thai train

This time the train journey took nearly 14 hours and without sleep we were both pretty grumpy :) then from Bangkok station caught a cab (the driver obviously was not from Bangkok as after 30 mins of driving around, he explained he didnt know where the Bus station was and dropped us at a mono rail station) we then managed to work out the way to the bus station and caught one to Pattaya...

Nearly 3 hours later we arrived in Pattaya, first impressions were "oh my god, its blackpool with sunshine!! but with Germans instead of scousers!" so we moved on south to Jomtien, a more relaxful resort. Pattaya is the main holiday resort in Thailand where people from all over Europe, Middle East and Asia go for wine, women (some look like women, but are men) sea, and sun.

Jomtien is more of an up and coming resort which is still not fully developed, which for us was the ideal place to relax for a week or so after a hard 2 weeks of trekking... (we needed a holiday! :) We stayed in a place called the Surf Beach hotel which was very reasonable and had an excellent bar and restaurant.

Our tans are coming on, but the beer is a bit more expensive here (1.20 pound for a large bottle of beer! hey we were paying half that up north!).

We have noticed that in Thailand there are a huge number of street sellers who usually have a moped or motorbike with a huge side car attached. They tend to sell anything from hot, fresh food to cuddly toys and they packed them as full as they possibly could. We gave them the name of "Sideshow Bob's" (a reference from the Simpsons).
